Foundation member Kayla Johnson will be back in purple for 2023 after returning to the Stars last season following two years out of elite level netball and the birth of her first child. A prodigious talent from a young age, the Silver Ferns defender has had an injury-plagued career, including two ACL knee reconstructions, but has proved she is far from done at the top level. At her best, Johnson is a match-winner. Speed off the mark, ability in the air and genuine dynamic athleticism have made Johnson a versatile player. Strong defensive qualities combined with an attacking flair make her equally comfortable at either wing or goal defence while she is also no stranger to centre. Johnson capped a strong comeback last season as part of the Silver Ferns bronze medal-winning team at the Commonwealth Games.
